Is nuclear hacking something to be worried about?

I have read that russian and american early warning systems could be hacked by terrorists and result in an all out nuclear war because one side may think they are being attacked. I am wondering if these systems are connected to the internet and if hackers would have the capability of hacking them, is this thing a read a real threat or is it fear mongering?
