Why is Scientology crazy while Christianity/Islam/Judaism isn't?

I know the Church of Scientology isn't really a religion but it seems to be regarded as such so I'm going with that. Christianity has talking snakes, Islam has Allah telling the jews to kill a bright yellow cow (what), and Judaism has penis mutilation. Why does the idea of aliens seem so crazy then? Is it a cultural thing?
